2. Jonas Van Avermaet, Blomster
Blomster, 2020
Located in the heart of young Eilandje (Antwerp), Blomster exuded the feeling of an urban contemporary cave - brought alive by ambient electronic music, color and flora. O, so much flora!
So ofcourse, I had to ask Jonas, the obvious.
Why flowers and plants?

“The idea of opening Blomster came to mind in the summer of 2015, during a holiday. Apparently out of the blue. It was going to be a plant shop. So no flowers, even. (it was a few years before the whole greenery and plants hype) But quickly after – like within the next half hour – the whole idea for Blomster fell into place; I know the materials I was going to use for the interior, the typical blue colour from the Jardin Majorelles would be very present, it would be plants, flowers, some art, ceramics and a few magazines. And it would be called Blomster.”

What is Blomster to you?
Decisions, decisions…
Jonas Van Avermaet, 2020
“Blomster is basically a little place where parts of who I am and what I’m interested in find (a) room to be together.”
What do you enjoy making most?
“What I like the most is the improvising part. Apart from a few occasions, I don’t make ready-made bouquets. So I make something on the spot, according to the customer’s wishes and my own creativity. The weather, the temperature, the mood of the customer, a discussion, the flowers on the table, the music … the moment, every time. That’s what I enjoy the most.”

This story was documented at Blomster’s former location in Eilandje.
Now moved to De Plantage on Lange Koepoortstraat 22, Antwerp,
You will find Jonas in a slightly different cave- brought alive by music, colors and flora. O, so much flora!
